The SUDS Archives hold documents, photographs, ephemera, and other records accrued over our 130+ years of continuous theatre-making.

Our oldest artifact dates from 1890. While coverage is spotty until the 1960s, there is a substantial amount of material from the 1970s to the present. These days, a comprehensive accessions program ensures that every new production is amply represented in the archival record.

In the interests of preservation and increased accessibility, a project is underway in 2022-23 to digitise the bulk of our physical holdings. Updates on this project will be released as key milestones are reached. Some initial scans are displayed below.

Letters to the editor, 1927

A 1927 modern-dress production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It prompted several heated exchanges in the letters column of the Evening News.

Festival program, 1946

As part of the 1946 Festival of the Arts, SUDS put on performances of The Dark Lady of the Sonnets and Back to Methuselah, by George Bernard Shaw.
