Meet your 2024 Executive

Say hello to our executive team for 2024! We are all passionate theatremakers with wide-spanning interests and expertise, and each one of us is excited to welcome our incoming members and make this a great year xxx

We’re always available to chat, but to contact the exec as a whole, email us at sudsthewash@gmail.com

Pat FuCcilli | President (He/Him)

G’day everyone! My names Pat (he/him), and I’m the President! I’m a 4th year Bachelor of Economics student, and I major in Economics and International Relations. I acted in my first SUDS show in 2021, and since then I have been involved in a number of slots as an actor, director, producer, and set designer. SUDS has been the absolute best thing I’ve done at uni. It’s an amazing social outlet, where everyone is united by a shared love and respect for theatre. I truly feel that rehearsing a piece of theatre you care about with your closest friends is among the most special experiences one can have, and SUDS is one of the best places in Sydney to do it. As President, I chair all the society’s meetings, help showrunners mount their productions, and manage and plan the society’s activities, with the rest of the exec! I am contactable via email at sudsthewash@gmail.com, instagram on the official SUDS account @sudsusyd, or via Facebook through the SUDS page!

Jasmine Jenkins | VICE-President (She/Her)

Hellooo! I’m Jasmine, and I’m the 2024 SUDS Vice President. I’m a third year Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences and Diploma in Language student up the road at UTS, but I spend most of my free time lurking in the Cellar. You might recognise me from the stage - I’ve acted in six shows, directed one, and worked in sound on three. I’ve found SUDS such a professional yet incredibly open and welcoming community, and that’s the environment I’m continuing to foster as VP. I’m here to manage memberships, support everybody’s wellbeing and ensure everybody is safe and having fun, and to help Pat keep the wheels greased. You can reach out to me at sudsthewash@gmail.com, or through my Instagram @jezzajenkins. See you around!

Felix Tonkin | Treasurer (he/HIM)

Hey! I’m Felix, and I’m your treasurer for 2024. That means I guard the SUDS gems in a giant hidden crypt underground... and do reimbursements. I first got involved in SUDS last year, initially acting, then writing and directing, and now treasuring! I am currently in my third year of a psychology degree. Unfortunately I still cannot mind read (yet), but I’m willing to try. Outside of SUDS I’m a bit of a nerd. I love board/card games, metal music, deep conversations, and a nice cup of tea.

ALEXIS Nguyen | Secretary (She/HER)

Hi there! I’m Alexis :) I’m a 3rd year Bachelor of Science (majoring in Psychological Sciences) and Laws student, and the Secretary for SUDS in 2024. In 2023, I’ve dabbled in some stage managing, lighting, acting, and producing for a few SUDS shows. As Secretary, you can find me organising bookings for shows and tapping away on my keyboard during meetings in an attempt to immortalise everyone’s quips. Outside of SUDS, I enjoy re-watching the same 3 comfort shows and listening to the same 3 comfort artists, and not working towards getting my Ps. If you would like to have a chat with me (but, let’s be honest, who wouldn’t), you can find me on Instagram (@alexisngyn) or by emailing sudsthewash@gmail.com. Toodles & can’t wait to see you around SUDS!!

Zoe LE MArinel | Archivist (They/Them)

Hello, I’m Zoe- I’m your Archivist for 2024! If you’re not sure what an archivist does, don’t worry, you’re not alone. It’s my job to know and preserve the society’s history. I look after our extensive records going all the way back to the 1890s, our posters, books, scripts, artwork, and photographs alongside endless miscellany. Ask me about our historic obsession with Shakespeare’s Julius Ceaser or the horrifying maw-like machine that we use to store show posters. Around SUDS I’ve done all kinds of whatever like writing, directing, acting, producing, dramaturgy (my favourite), costuming and fight choreography. I live in the Cellar Theatre’s walls, so hopefully I’ll see you in there sometime! Questions about the archives? Email me at sudsthewash@gmail.com

ELLA MCGRATH | CEllar Officer (She/her)

Hi ! I’m Ella, I’m a first year Arts/Media student, and I’m one of the cellar officers. We’re the henchmen (henchwomen?) of the theatre, commandeering power tools, rigging lights, and of course knowing all the ins and outs of bump-ins and bump-outs (putting up and taking down sets). That means you’ll catch at least one of us, without fail, in the audience on a show’s closing night. I came to this scene halfway through 2023, auditioning for a show before I was enrolled as a student or on the SUDS membership docket – neither are required, which is something I love about this company. I have taken on some acting, writing and production roles, but I hope to get more technical skills under my belt, like lighting design (so you’ll definitely see me at one of our workshops!!).

EMILY WHITING | Cellar Officer (she/her)

I’m Emily and I’m one of the Cellar officer for 2024. I am currently second year at USYD majoring in Theatre and Performance Studies in a Bachelor of Arts, my minor being design. I have been involved with SUDS for about a year now in various roles such as actor, stage manager and more recently producer of a summer season show. As Cellar Officer I will be ensuring the safety of all people using the Cellar. I will help showrunners with their bump-ins and bump-outs alongside my other Cellar Officer Ella. You can come to me with questions about the Theatre or anything about SUDS. I’m looking forward to this year and all the theatre it brings! I’m always happy to chat, whether it be about theatre or my dog (who I love to show pictures of).

Alex Mcleay | Festivals Officer (They/Them)

Hi, I’m Alex Mcleay, your Festivals Officer for 2024. The Festivals Officer organises auxiliary SUDS events, focused around but not limited to festivals, such as our Film Festivals, events with Fringe Festivals, Diversity Workshops, and more. I have worked writing, directing, and producing with SUDS, and am the producer of the independent publication Booker Magazine. I am excited to be bringing my showrunning skills and drive to our society events, partnerships, festivals, workshops, and beyond this year. You can find me on instagram at @defunctgirl

RObert Hoang | Publicity Officer (he/him)

Hi there! I'm Robert, an amateur photographer, emerging writer and aspiring English teacher from South-Western Sydney. Introduced to SUDS in 2022 and having done the rounds as both cast and crew in many shows since, I fell in love with student theatre and the terribly lo-fi, grungy aesthetic of the Cellar on campus. As part of publicity with Pat and Mitch, I help to get the word out on our upcoming Slots to make sure as many people can enjoy them as possible! When I'm not at the typewriter or teaching Shakespeare, you can usually find me hovering around the Cellar taking photographs of our wonderful productions. You can find me on Instagram as @robert.hoang

Mitchell Dihm | Publicty Officer (He/Him)

hey hey! My name is Mitch and I make up a half of the 2024 publicity officers! I am in my 2nd year studying commerce / advance studies at #USYD majoring in marketing and digital cultures. As a publicity officer I am likely responding to the messages you send to the SUDS facebook and instagram and managing our online presence, if you see a wild comment or story from the SUDS instagram, it was most likely me. I have been acting and performing since I was 6 so I was destined to join SUDS last year. Since then, I have production assisted, stage managed, graphic designed, assistant directed and acted all in THE CELLAR THEATRE. If you have any questions PLEASE find me on facebook (Mitchell Dihm) or Instagram (Mitchelldihm) and when you see this go like the SUDS instagram recent xx

Sophie Newby | Social Secretary (she/heR)

Hi!! Just here as one half of the hottest duo here, one of your Social Secretaries for 2024 alongside Mrs Rose Cooke!! I’m a third year Bachelor of Arts/Advanced Studies student studying International and Global studies and English. I’ve been in SUDS since 2021, tried my hand at assistant directing but mostly stuck to acting in as many shows as will have me! SUDS has been an incredible creative outlet and a great environment to get involved in theatre and just try shit, even if it’s terrible. Inside of SUDS, Im here to be social and secxy, take you for some beer and free food pre-shows, co-run a mentoring program for anyone new to SUDS and wanting to get involved, and regretfully force the courtyard cafe staff to make like 20 coffees at once. Outside of SUDS I like to curate very specific playlists that I immediately get sick of, I like to paint and write when I have time, and I like to tell people I can speak Spanish in the hopes that they wont test me on that. If you have any questions about getting involved in SUDS, you can send me a message on FB (Sophie Newby) or instagram (@sophievrnewby)!

ROSE Cooke | Social Secretary (She/her)

Hi! I’m Rose, one half of the best team on the SUDS this year (social secretaries with Miss Sophie Newby). I’ve been in SUDS since the beginning of 2023, when I dived right in with writing and directing Slot 4! Since then, I’ve been trying my hand at all different roles in SUDS, but my heart belongs to playwriting. Aside from that (which is the only thing my extended family asks me about - ala the only thing they know about me), I love listening to music (talk to me about how Pulp fell between the cracks of Britpop), educating myself on questionable topics (addicted to the Wikipedia deep dive), and telling people I’m not from Sydney (see, I just did it then). Hopefully #bigthingscoming for my playwriting, but it in the meantime social secretary will do. SUDS is a crazy place, in the best way. Come and be social with me and Sophie!
