Synopsis:

A Corpse in the Cabinet is a farce set over the course of a federal election day in a fictional imagining Sydney. In the early hours of a sweltering summer morning, Mariah, a young intern working on Prime Minister Desmond Chudmore’s re-election campaign, finds him mysteriously dead in his electoral office. In a panic and the fear of implication, she calls upon two of Chudmore’s most trusted advisors, Silas and Genevieve to help her plan how to deal with this catastrophe. But what the advisors do next is not what Mariah expects. Instead of helping her out of her sticky predicament, they fixate on the advantage they have been given by this information of Cudmore's inconveniently timed demise. Through plenty of hair-brained schemes and constant bickering, the three begin to craft an intricate conspiracy to keep the story out of the public eye, and keep the voters onside. These unlikely allies embark on a journey across Sydney, and from the moment polls open, until the moment they close they attempt to hoodwink the public, the party and the brewing media circus. On their adventures, these three run into bloodthirsty morticians, slogan-slinging speech writers, and pesky little activists as their conspiracy bubbles beyond their control. It’s a show that seeks to examine Australia's stagnant bureaucracy, reactionary mass-media and what an aging, out of touch Australian culture values in their leadership. It’s also just a silly little play about people carting around a dead body while trying to win an election.
