Meet the 2019 Executive
Day in and day out, we on the exec are juggling (or rather, procrastinating) our studies alongside our work on the exec to bring you quality theatre.
Read on to find out more about the people making up our team and their involvement in the society as executives, general members and theatre-makers!
president: lincoln gidney
Lincoln can either be found front and centre GMs or hiding in the tech box operating lights in basically every SUDS show since he joined the society in 2017. Between his role as our gracious leader, his improv antics at theatresports, and his Bachelor of Arts and Education (majoring in drama teaching) he basically lives on campus. Lincoln has worked directly with 10 SUDS shows in his time with the society, in directing and lighting design roles.
vice president: georgia condon
Behind every great President is a great Vice President - and Georgia sure is trying her best. Georgia is here to help out the President with anything he needs, and to maintain the welcoming and wonderful SUDS community. Since she started in 2017, she’s been involved with 14 SUDS shows, both sound designing and acting - but either way it’s all happening last minute the night before over a big cup of tea.
treasurer: thomas hanaee
This is Tom’s face when you don’t submit your reimbursement forms on time, bud. An avid lover of SharePoint and existentialist plays, Tom has acted in 5 SUDS shows since joining in 2017, and directed No Exit in 2019. If he’s not in the Cellar tracking down receipts and checking up on our finances, he’s probably stressing over his many law assignments. Help him.
secretary: sean landis
You’ll generally find Sean sitting in the corner of a GM or exec meeting furiously typing up minutes or organising the very successful SUDS mentorship program and helping to raise his many SUDS children. He’s a busy bee in the SUDS world and the real world, having worked on 11 shows since starting in 2017, and spending the rest of his time studying for a degree in Law (and Media).
Cellar Officer: Margaret Thanos
Since the tender age of 2 days and 11 hours old, when a gust of wind passed her face, Margaret knew her calling was being the Cellar Officer of SUDS. Margaret has been involved in 10 shows since joining in 2018, including directing The Goat, or Who is Sylvia and Jim Got Shot. Margaret basically lives in the Cellar now thanks to all the shows she involves herself in, and spends her time maintaining the space so as to dodge doing readings for her Arts degree.
Cellar Officer: Sophie morrissey
Sophie is another of our Cellar Dwellers, responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of SUDS’ home. Her soothing presence and beautiful hair will help you maintain sanity through a chaotic bump-in or late-night tech run. If she must be torn from the Cellar for a single moment, it’s probably to study for her Arts degree, majoring in Theatre and Performance Studies and Philosophy. Sophie has worked on 6 shows as an actor and lighting designer since joining in 2018.
social secretary: jake parker
When Jake’s not crying into a bundle of half-finished costumes about how overcommitted he is, he’s signing up for another show because “he’s got time” and “his Education degree isn’t that important anyway”. Join Jake for a cranberry juice at Play with Your Food at Flodge, some salt and vinegar crisps at Rough Cuts or the salt of his own tears at 8am on a Saturday morning in the Cellar. What do you mean you can say no to a show? Jake’s done 17?! BUT THEY ARE ALL OPPORTUNITIES!!
social secretary: nina mountford
Social Secretary or In-House Astrologer? If she’s not working on a show or organising social events, this energetic Virgo is checking in on the stars. Nina says she’s a second year arts student but nobody’s quite sure - not even Nina herself! You’ll probably see her in Courtyard chatting up a storm about Mercury’s latest foray into retrograde instead of her classes (don’t be like Nina). She’s acted in and designed for 11 SUDS shows since joining in 2018, and as for the future? Only the stars will tell!
archivist: emily henderson
Emily’s Big Horse Girl Energy fills her with loveable nerdy enthusiasm, and has prepared her well for her role as SUDS archivist. She’s completely immersed herself in the society since 2018 as a set designer, assistant director, director, actor and stage manager in 5 shows; and is in charge of keeping our archives well-stocked with info about all the fab productions we put on. Other than that, Emily spends her time trying to keep up with readings for her Arts degree, majoring in English.
publicity Officer: dani maher
Instagram? Check. Twitter? Yes please. Facebook? Hell yeah. Dani’s all over SUDS’ socials - the organisational side, that is. When she’s not posting too many Instagram stories at a GM or bump-in, she’s getting involved in theatre as an actor or designer, rewatching The Office for the tenth time, publishing articles online or - as a last resort - working on her media degree. Dani has acted in 5 SUDS shows and worked on makeup, costume, and directing in 5 others since she joined the society in 2017.
publicity Officer: declan coyle
If you’re looking for Declan, he’s probably sitting at a computer somewhere typing - whether it’s live tweets at a GM, essays for his Bachelor of Arts majoring in theatre and film, or the script for his very own play. The proud owner of a British accent, Declan’s role as Publicity Officer has allowed him to master the complexities of poster printing at Officeworks and event building on Facebook. Declan has gotten involved in 11 SUDS shows since joining the society in 2018, in acting and production roles.
festivals officer: tom hetherington-welch
There's no one more confused about this role’s title than Tom himself. After much deliberation, he can be confirmed to be the Festivals Officer. Tom is in charge of making sure operations are smooth for all of SUDS involvement in USYD's larger community events, like Popfest and Health and Wellbeing week. On top of that, he's working on his Arts degree, and getting involved as much as he can with SUDS! Tom has been involved in 3 productions since he joined in 2019.
