Meet your 2020 Executive

All through the year, we on the exec are decision-making, budgeting, scheduling, posting, drilling, socialising and archiving, all while procrastinating our studies to bring you quality student theatre.
Read on to find out more about those on our team and a little about their roles and their involvement in productions in the society!

president: Margaret thanos

If you see an under average height brunette standing up centre-stage at a GM, it’s probably Margaret Thanos, our president! Margaret is passionate about new writing and creating a safe and supportive environment for all SUDS members. Margaret has been involved in 13 shows since joining in 2018, including directing The Goat, or Who is Sylvia and Jim Got Shot. Margaret basically lives in the Cellar now thanks to all the shows she involves herself in, and spends her time maintaining the society so as to dodge doing readings for her Arts degree.

vice president: jake parker

When Jake’s not crying into a bundle of half-finished drafts about over committing himself or trying to work out what ‘deputising the president’ as VP actually means, he’s signing up for another show because “he’s got time” and “his Education degree isn’t that important anyway”. Join Jake for a cranberry juice at Play with Your Food at Flodge, some salt and vinegar crisps at Rough Cuts, or the salt of his own tears at 8am on a Sunday morning in the Cellar. What do you mean you can say no to a show? BUT THEY ARE ALL OPPORTUNITIES!!

treasurer: eoin o’sullivan

Eoin (Owen) went from swearing on stage in a Scottish accent to swearing on stage in an Irish accent (when he doesn't get fed enough). He's in his second year of computing sciences and can be found counting coins, errors in his code or the minutes until his next meal. Eoin started in SUDS in early 2019, has been involved in 3 shows and loved every one!

secretary: declan coyle

If you’re looking for Declan, he’s probably sitting at a computer typing - whether, it’s minutes from a GM, the scripts for his very own plays, or maybe, just maybe, working on his BA in Theatre and Film. Proud owner of a British accent (Not so proud owner of a lisp), Declan’s role as Secretary has enabled him to master the elusive art of touch typing and booking rooms. Declan has been involved in 15 SUDS shows since 2018, from writing to acting and everything in-between!

Cellar Officer: alice stafford

After attending over half the bump ins in 2019, Alice quickly realised that she had been put on the Earth to be a Cellar Officer. Not quite sure what she’s studying or when she will finish, we think her degree is something to do with politics (but this is tbc). Alice has been involved with 10 suds shows as a director, lighting designer, set designer, assistant producer and actor. If you’re looking for Alice in a GM you’ll be able to spot her head above the crowd or converse on a ladder as she admires the lights. Any attempt to make a pop culture reference will be lost on Alice, however she has seen Cats the movie twice and believes this makes up for it.

Cellar Officer: tom hetherington-welch

Uni classes? Tom’s hardly heard of 'em. While technically majoring in Theatre and Film in his Arts degree, SUDS is his home and how he spends most of his time. Directing, acting, costuming, lighting, set designing, Tom’s done/doing it all since he joined in 2018! Catch him at the GM’s, or drop by the Cellar anytime, if he’s not there tending to important Cellar Officer duties or tidying up Ocean’s, then rest assured, he is DEFINITELY at Courtyard Cafe eating a vegan pizza and putting off Uni work. Always up for a friendly chat, Tom is yet to learn about the dangers of overcommitting ~ so he is definitely keen to hear about your projects, apply for your shows, and support in all the ways he can!

social secretary: isla mowbray

When Isla is not changing degrees she is making friends with any person, animal or inanimate object that looks like it has the potential to smile. She LOVES talking, often on stage, often on stage, often to people. She has done 6 SUDS shows since joining in 2019. From acting to acting Isla loves being on stage. You can find her hosting rough cuts and eating pizza at the Flodge,

social secretary: felix faber

Dangerous. Electrifying. A phenom. Felix has used all of these terms to describe himself, and people have often agreed when pressed. Since joining SUDS in 2018, Felix has subjected his fellow thespians to his scorching wit and frenetic energy at rehearsals, Rough Cuts, and any event that a bar tab can be found. As Social Secretary, Felix is legally required to be your friend, but he understands if you don't want to be his. He wouldn't either.

publicity Officer: katherine porritt-fraser

Minimising screen time? Kat doesn’t know her. Behind all SUDS’ socials, Kat’s working hard to make sure you know about everything happening in the society. She’s worked on 5 shows since joining SUDS in 2019 doing anything from set and sound design to acting and assistant directing. Kat can be found in Courtyard drowning in a Judith Butler reading for her Gender Studies major or scrawling secret poetry in her journal on the Cellar Lawns [spooky].

publicity Officer: matthew forbes

You know that sad-looking disheveled lanky guy you see at concerts? That’s Matt, except he’s the one live tweeting the SUDS GMs and he’s more likely to recommend Carly Rae Jepsen’s music to you than Mac DeMarco’s. An Arts and Media student who’s really only committed to one of those degrees, Matt’s been involved in nine productions with SUDS so far, and has enjoyed every single sleep-deprived minute he’s spent in the Cellar. He’s ecstatic to help make the society look good and fuel his social media addiction as Publicity Officer this year. Never hesitate to come chat with him if you have any questions or concerns - he promises he’ll only ask you to apply for Honi Soit once.

Roisin.jpg

FESTIVALS OFFICER: ANGE TRAN

When Ange went to Osaka in Jan 2020, she found herself; as a Japanese bobtail who drinks exclusively green tea and listens to Sampa the Great and Charli XCX. If she’s not heard meowing about, she’s working and organising events with the USU for SUDS in her role of Festivals Officer! Since joining this gloriously dramatic society in 2019, Ange has splashed chill vibes in 9 shows whether it be through acting, costume designing, tech operating, band, producing or directing.

archivist: roisin murphy

Roisin likes history. Not the actual kind. Just the SUDS kind. When she’s not trawling through the Honi archives for vaguely irrelevant but equally interesting facts about theatre’s past on campus, she’s playing music for SUDS shows or hanging around courtyard begging for them to bring back the brie and onion pizza. Since joining SUDS in 2019 she’s grown to love the sweet sight of the cellar and the warm escape theatre brings to her Arts degree.
