Copenhagen
By Michael Frayn

Wednesday 24th Oct - Saturday 27th Oct; Wednesday 31st Oct - Saturday 3rd Nov
The Cellar Theatre

On a September night in Nazi-occupied Copenhagen, in the middle of the Second World War, German physicist Werner Heisenberg meets with his mentor, the Danish physicist Niels Bohr. We know the meeting happened, but what was said has been lost to history and conflicting accounts. In Michael Frayn’s Copenhagen, physics and politics prove painfully difficult to keep apart.
Four years later, the Allies would drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing hundreds of thousands of people. Frayn’s play resurrects Heisenberg, Bohr and Bohr’s wife, Margrethe, to relive their memories and search for answers. As they go over the past, uncertainty seems the only sure thing.
