30th October - 2nd November and 6th - 9th November 2019, 7pm
The Cellar Theatre
One mother. Two daughters and a death. Three women caught in the aftermath of a lifetime of abuse that has compelled them to murder. Set against a quintessentially Australian backdrop, the Bleeding Tree by Angus Cerini explores what happens after women fight back.
The audience are invited to experience a world, through the lens of 3 complex women. A world that transcends time in the same way that the issues explored have transcended past and contemporary societies.

Pulp feature
“In a world where so often depictions of violence against women focus solely on presenting and dramatizing the abuse itself, dismissing the emotional and mental lives of survivors, The Bleeding Tree is a breath of fresh air to me.”
Honi Soit review
“The Bleeding Tree paints intense relationships through windows of hurt and vulnerability. It challenges the constructs of masculinity and femininity, of power dynamics between abusers and the abused… The Bleeding Tree is a triumph.
