Pratha Nagpal is a SUDS and NIDA alumni who has been active in independent theatre company and professional theatre productions. Her recent work Maa Ki Rasoi (My Mother’s Kitchen) has been put on at KXT ON BROADWAY and is currently assistant directing CONSTELLATIONS at Sydney Theatre Company. Pratha is a POC creative who has had experience in writing and directing. In this workshop, Pratha will be explaining multidisciplinary practice working as a writer/ director but also exploring different forms of creating with a focus on movement and physical theatre. Pratha will also be talking through what it means for POC to create work in white structures and how to safely navigate that procesw. She will also talk about how white allies have a big role in making that process safer and offering tools for all to create a more culturally safe space.

SUDS POC Workshops Week: Slanted Theatre Rehearsal

Slanted Theatre is an Asian-Australian theatre company established in Sydney in 2021. They have presented full scale productions such as, a world premiere of Short Blanket by Matt Bostock at Meraki Arts Bar, Ching Chong Chinaman by Lauren Yee at Chippen Street Theatre, and Three Fat Virgins Unssambled by Ovidia Yu at KXT bAKEHOUSE theatre. Tiffany Wong, the founder of Slanted theatre and our SUDS alumni are currently directing a show Boom by Jean Tay. They will be bringing in their cast and crew to provide an opportunity for a rehearsal observation at the Cellar Theatre. This is a golden opportunity to have a glimpse of how independent theatre works during rehearsals and learn practical skills in different aspects of theatre.

Rachel Hui is a SUDS alumni who has been doing costume design for SUDS shows, independent theatre company productions, and also has experience in other theatrical productions within the field. In this workshop, Rachel will be talking about some basic theoretical and practical skills in costume designing and will provide some tips for interviewing for a costume designer/ assistant role for future production opportunities!

Working with the team behind Fruit Box Theatre, come learn what it takes to bring a theatre performance from conception to fruition. In this workshop you will hear about Fruit Box' RIPE Development program, learn more about how to collaborate with other artists, and spend some time working in groups to bring a concept to life. This workshop will focus on telling specifically queer slanted stories.

Stemming from their Deaf perspectives, Jeremy and Sue will provide a new workshop on creating an inclusive space for deaf and hard-of-hearing artists. In addition, you'll also get an opportunity to learn about Auslan (Australian Sign Language) with a fun activity and learn about how Sue & Jeremy integrate Auslan within their art.
